October Interface – FOX HUNT

We are doing a Fox Hunt, instead of the regular Interface meeting. Start where it is convenient for you—you do not need to come down to the Sheriff’s Office.

The frequencies are

  • 146.46 simplex – FOXES (taunting the Hounds)
  • 147.34 repeater – HOUNDS (coordinating their search)

OCTOBER INTERFACE – Fox Hunt – 1900h 03.Oct.2006

We will be doing a Fox Hunt (hidden transmitter) tonight, instead of
our regular Interface meeting. You do not need to go to the
Sheriff’s Office, in fact, it would probably be better if you didn’t,
so we get more location diversity at the beginning of the hunt.

The idea of the fox hunt is for the Hounds (all ARES members) to find
the Foxes (AD7GI and N7WCX) using radio direction finding techniques.
If we have ARES members scattered throughout the county to begin
with, we will be better able to triangulate the location of those
wily foxes, and converge on their den more quickly.

So, starting tonight about 1900h (7pm) the Foxes will begin
transmitting on 146.46 simplex. Their transmissions will be
intermittant, so you’ll need to be on your toes. (I suspect
something like 30 seconds of transmission every two to five minutes.)
Additionally, as the hunt proceeds, the foxes will lower the output
power of their transmissions so it will be increasingly difficult to
find them. Zero in on them QUICKLY.

We, as hounds, will coordinate on the 147.34 repeater. You may share
information until you find the fox, at which time you need to stop
communicating with the other hounds. The more coordination the
hounds have, the better off the pack will be for finding the fox den.

I’ve been told there is a possibility that the Foxes will have treats
in their den to placate the weary Hounds!

The frequencies again

  • 146.46 simplex – FOXES (taunting the Hounds)
  • 147.34 repeater – HOUNDS (coordinating their search)

You are encouraged to share information … until you find the foxes.
Coordination of effort is the key here. The Lone Hound is the Lonely
Hound.

Come join us for a great time!
