The purpose of this page is to document some best practices when using NBEMS in Utah County. The information here is provided as suggestions to methods and modes. It is always up to the operator to adhere to any and all “gentlemen agreements” in regards to frequency usage and communications practices. Please use good judgement and play nice.
Suggested Frequency and mode usage per band
The frequencies below are intended as guidelines for UCARES events and training and not meant as restrictions for NBEMS county wide. Any of the frequencies listed for digital modes in the US Amateur Radio radio band allocation can and should be used for general NBEMS usage.
In each category you will find frequencies listed for voice and for data. The “voice” frequencies are recommended to coordinate contact frequencies and modes. The data frequencies are recommended for the actual digital data exchange. The suggested “modes” are listed as either being “default” or “alternate”. The default mode is what should be tried first. Alternates can be used if the default mode isn’t desirable. Keep in mind that these are only suggestions. Feel free to experiment and learn.
Also note that many of the “suggested” frequencies below have a (+/-) indication. This means that if the suggested frequency is in use or noisy, you should scan upward, or downward within the given range for the contact you’re looking for. For example, if the range is “14.1030 MHz (+/- 3kHz)”, you would scan upward from 141.103 to 14.106 and downward to 14.100 looking for your contact.
