Advancement Coordinator (Assistant EC)
Ron Edwards, K7RCZ k7rcz@ecsteam.org
Ron has been a licensed Ham Radio operator since July of 2011. He stated as a Technician Class Amateur operator and in August of 2011 he realized that his capacity as a ham radio operator was very limited. So, in August of 2011 he passed the General Class license. He has since upgraded his license to Extra Class.
As a ham radio operator his goal was to be available to assist his neighbors and community members in the event of a major incident or disaster. While serving Stake President in Saratoga Springs he organized a Sunday evening Stake net. The net began with only a handful of check-ins. Eventually growing to more than 40 check-ins each week. Other Stakes and ham radio operators heard about the net, and it grew to a Saratoga Springs City-Wide net.
On June 21, 2012, the “Dump Fire” which caused the evacuation of approximately 2,000 homes before it was fully contained. The Fire Chief, Chief Campbell contacted him and asked if he could get some of our ham radio operators to assist the police in evacuating the neighborhoods, which we were able to do. Two and a half months later we experienced a 100 flood, and it was our ham radio operators the handled the more than 10,000 volunteers with the cleanup efforts. Ron has experienced firsthand the importance of ham radio and skilled ham radio operators in being ready and available to assist where needed!
Ron continues to love volunteering and joined Utah County Amateur Radio Emergency Services (UCARES) in May of 2020 and is currently serving on the board of UCARES as the Advancement Coordinator. He is a volunteer examiner for ham radio licensing (VE). He also serves the Eagle Mountain Sheriff’s Department as a Volunteer in Police Services (VIP’s). Also, serving with the Emergency Communication & Support Team for the Utah County Sheriff's Department. (ECSTeam).
Ron is here for you and willing to answer questions that you may have!
